Wellington Regional Arts Review 2024

Saturday 7 September - Sunday 17 November

An opportunity for emerging or established artists in the Greater Wellington Region to showcase new work.

Whirinaki Whare Taonga biennial Wellington Regional Arts Review is an opportunity for artists to exhibit original works, in any medium, which has been completed in the last 24 months by artists living and working in the Greater Wellington Region (including Wairarapa and Kapiti).

Entries will be selected by an independent panel of judges and exhibited and Whirinaki. Prizes are; Supreme prize of $2000, two Merit awards $500, and the People's Choice award.

Entries close Sunday 4 August 2024.


Terms and Conditions

Eligible Work: Any original work in any medium, completed within the last two years by an artist living and working in the Greater Wellington Region. Work previously exhibited at Whirinaki will not be included in the exhibition.

Entries:

  • Entries can be submitted by filling in attached PDF form or by filling in our online application.
  • You can submit up to two entries per person. Please complete a separate entry form for each entry.
  • Each entry form must be accompanied by two images. Please do not send original artwork.
  • The entry fee of $25 per entry (non-refundable)must accompany each entry form.
  • Entries need to be received by Sunday 4 August 2024. No late entries will be accepted.

Selected Artworks: All works are to be open-off original and not part of an edition. Wet artworks or works that may emit offensive odours or degrade over the course of the exhibition period will NOT be accepted. Work selected for this Review must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.

Prize Winners: All awards will be announced at the exhibition opening on Friday 6 September at 6pm.

Images

    • Entries must be accompanied by two images, one of the whole work and the other a detail of the work.
    • Entries that are posted or are processed at reception will require either an un-mounted photograph or a digital print of the artwork, maximum size A4
    • Online entries and emailed entries require a high quality JPG file format 1-3MB image, no smaller than 800x600px. Details are on the online entry form.
    • Please note: images may be used to promote the exhibition.

Judges Selection: The judges will select the show from the initial entries. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Notification: Entrants will be advised as to the outcome of the selection process by Thursday 15 August. Email will be used where possible otherwise notification will be by post. Please ensure you have written your email and postal addresses clearly on the entry form.

Labelling: Labels identifying your artwork and a packaging label will be sent to finalists. All artwork received must be clearly labelled.

Presentation: Artwork must be presented in a manner that facilitates straightforward presentation i.e. framed where appropriate and with D rings attached to the work for hanging no strings attached. All works with an electrical component must be accompanied by a current Safety Certificate from a Master Electrician. Where Whirinaki has concerns as to safety, security, size or exhibition issues with a specific work this will be discussed with the artist if the work needs to be withdrawn. Due to spatial constraints, large installations may not be accepted.

Copyright/Presentation: While Whirinaki will endeavor to protect copyright, work is submitted at the artist's own risk. Any work received into the exhibition may be used for promotional purposes by Whirinaki and may be photographed by the public.

Freight: Freight costs and safety of delivery to and from Whirinaki will be the sole responsibility of the artist.

Sale of Artworks: Sale price of the work must include the payment to the artist plus the centre's commission (25% plus GST). Payment for all sold works will be made no later than 20 December 2024. If a work is not available for sale please indicate by entering NFS as the sale price.

Responsibility: While in the Galley, all works are covered by the Gallery's insurance policy. Insurance for works in transit to and from the Gallery is the responsibility of the owner. The Gallery does not accept responsibility for damage caused by a third party not associated with the Gallery.
